# Thumbnails sidebar

The **Thumbnails** view of the sidebar shows every page as a thumbnail: click one to go there.

**Available in [pre-release 3.7](https://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/prerelease)**

**Open it with View → Show Thumbnails.** At a glance:

- **Show / hide:** **View → Show Thumbnails**, right-click → **Show Thumbnails**, or `Ctrl + K`, `Toggle Thumbnails`.
- **Switch views:** click the Bookmarks, Thumbnails or Favorites icon in a sidebar panel's header.
- **Go to a page:** click its thumbnail, or `Up` / `Down` while the thumbnails have the focus.
- **Move the focus:** `Tab` switches between the document and the thumbnails.
- **Reorder, remove or add pages:** the [Merge PDF window](Merge-PDF-window.md).

## Show the Thumbnails view

- **View → Show Thumbnails**, or right-click the document → **Show Thumbnails**.
- `Ctrl + K`, then `Toggle Thumbnails` in the [Command Palette](Command-Palette.md). The command is `CmdToggleThumbnails`, bind a shortcut to it as in [Customize keyboard shortcuts](Customize-keyboard-shortcuts.md).
- In a sidebar panel's header, click the Thumbnails icon (hover shows its name). The Bookmarks and Favorites icons switch back.

The Thumbnails view works for documents without bookmarks, too.

## Two sidebar panels

The sidebar has a top and a bottom panel. Each shows Bookmarks, Thumbnails or Favorites; the header icon of the view it shows is highlighted.

- **Show Thumbnails**, **Show Bookmarks** (`F12`) and **Show Favorites** open their view in the top panel if it's hidden, else in the bottom panel if that's hidden, else the top panel switches to it.
- If the view is already showing, the command hides its panel.
- Clicking the icon of a view the other panel shows swaps the two panels' views.
- The top panel, and what it shows, is remembered per document. The bottom panel is the same for all documents: `ShowFavorites` and `SidebarBottomView` in [advanced settings](Advanced-options-settings.md).

## Go to a page

Click a thumbnail. The page with the blue frame is the current one and follows you as you scroll the document.

Click a thumbnail or press `Tab` to give the thumbnails the keyboard focus; a dotted border shows they have it. Then `Up` / `Down` go to the previous / next page. Every other key works as in the document (`Page Down`, `Home`, shortcuts, ...). `Tab` moves the focus back to the document.

## Tips

- Use the Thumbnails view to find a page by how it looks: a figure, a table, a blank page.
- Tip: to reorder, remove or add pages by dragging thumbnails, use right-click → **Document** → **Merge PDF...** ([Merge PDF window](Merge-PDF-window.md)).
- Tip: `Ctrl + K`, then `&` shows a larger thumbnail grid in the [Command Palette](Command-Palette.md).
