# sumatrapdf-tool barcode

or [SumatraPDF.exe barcode](Tools.md)

**Available in [pre-release 3.7](https://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/prerelease)**

**Usage:** `sumatrapdf-tool barcode -c [options] text` creates a barcode, `sumatrapdf-tool barcode -d [options] input [pages]` reads the barcodes on a page or in an image.

## Create a QR code

`sumatrapdf-tool barcode -c -q -o hello.png "Hello world"`

`-q` adds the quiet zone around the code, `-e 4` raises the error correction level (0-8), `-s 400` sets the image size in pixels and `-t` adds the human readable text under formats that have one. The output is a PNG, or a PDF when the output name ends with `.pdf`.

`-F` picks the format: `qrcode` (the default), `aztec`, `codabar`, `code39`, `code93`, `code128`, `databar`, `databarexpanded`, `databarlimited`, `datamatrix`, `dxfilmedge`, `ean8`, `ean13`, `itf`, `maxicode`, `microqrcode`, `pdf417`, `rmqrcode`, `upca` or `upce`.

`sumatrapdf-tool barcode -c -F code128 -t -o label.png 4006381333931`

## Read barcodes

`sumatrapdf-tool barcode -d hello.png`

prints one line per barcode found, as `format: text`. A PDF works too, optionally with a page range:

`sumatrapdf-tool barcode -d -o codes.txt invoices.pdf 1-3`

`-r` rotates the page before reading and `-p` gives the password of an encrypted PDF.
