Convert EPUB to PDF

Turn an EPUB ebook into a PDF with Convert EPUB to PDF… in SumatraPDF, or from the command line with sumatrapdf-tool convert. The PDF keeps selectable, searchable text.

Most often you right-click the book and choose Document → Convert EPUB to PDF… At a glance:

In SumatraPDF: right-click → Document → Convert EPUB to PDF…, or Ctrl + K, then Convert EPUB to PDF.... Pick the page size and font size, then click Convert to PDF
Command line: sumatrapdf-tool convert -o book.pdf book.epub, with more options (any page size, a user stylesheet, a page range)

Convert in SumatraPDF #

Open the EPUB.
Start Convert EPUB to PDF… in any of these ways:
- Right-click the document → Document → Convert EPUB to PDF…
- Ctrl + K, Convert EPUB to PDF... command in Command Palette (CmdConvertEpubToPdf)
Choose the layout:
- Page size: A5 (the default), A4, A6 or Letter
- Font size: in points, 11 by default. Pick one from the list or type any size up to 72.
Check Save as. The default is the book’s name with .pdf in the same folder (book.1.pdf if book.pdf exists). Edit the path or use Browse….
Click Convert to PDF. SumatraPDF writes the PDF and opens it.

The command is shown only for EPUB files. The book is laid out the way MuPDF lays it out with its own styles. Your ebook settings (font, margins, custom CSS) don’t apply.

Convert from the command line #

Use sumatrapdf-tool.exe convert, or SumatraPDF.exe convert with the same arguments:

sumatrapdf-tool convert -o book.pdf book.epub

The book is laid out into pages of 420 x 595 points (about A5) by default. Change the layout with:

Option	Meaning
`-W <n>`	page width in points (72 points = 1 inch)
`-H <n>`	page height in points
`-S <n>`	font size in points
`-U <css>`	file name of a user stylesheet applied to the book
`-X`	ignore the book’s own styles

A4 pages with 12 pt text:

sumatrapdf-tool convert -W 595 -H 842 -S 12 -o book.pdf book.epub

US Letter is -W 612 -H 792.

Add a page range after the file name to convert only part of the book: sumatrapdf-tool convert -o start.pdf book.epub 1-20.

Use a bigger font size for reading the PDF on a phone, or A4 / Letter with 12 pt for printing.
