The Merge PDF window shows the pages of a PDF as thumbnails: add pages of other PDFs, drag pages into a new order, remove pages, then save the result.
Available in pre-release 3.7
Open it with right-click → Document → Merge PDF…. At a glance:
- Open: right-click → Document → Merge PDF…, or
Ctrl + K,Merge PDF. - Add pages of another PDF: Add PDF…, or drop PDF files from Explorer between two thumbnails.
- Move pages: drag them. A blue bar shows where they go.
- Remove a page: the ✕ in its top-right corner,
Delete, Remove, or right-click → Remove. - Restore a removed page: the ↻ in its corner,
Delete, Restore, or right-click → Restore. - Select pages: click,
Ctrl+ click,Shift+ click, drag a box around them,Ctrl + A. - Save: Save writes over the document, Save As… creates a new PDF and opens it.
Open the Merge PDF window #
- Right-click the document → Document → Merge PDF….
Ctrl + K, thenMerge PDFin the Command Palette. The command isCmdMergePDF; bind a shortcut to it as in Customize keyboard shortcuts.
It works for PDF documents. The window shows the document’s pages, with the current page selected.
Add pages from other PDFs #
- Click Add PDF… and pick one or more PDF files, then choose where their pages go: At the end, At the beginning or After page N. N starts as the last selected page; typing a number picks After page.
- Or drag PDF files from Explorer onto the thumbnails. A blue bar shows where their pages go.
With pages from more than one file, each page has a colored strip on top; the colors and file names are listed at the bottom, after the page count. Hover a page to see its file and page number.
If a PDF has a password, you’re asked for it.
Reorder pages #
- Select the pages to move.
- Drag them. A blue bar shows where they go.
- Release. The pages move together, in their current order, and stay selected.
Near the top or bottom edge the list scrolls while you drag.
Esc cancels the drag.Remove pages #
Removed pages stay in the list, dimmed, so you can change your mind. They are left out when you save.
- Hover a page and click the ✕ in its top-right corner.
- Select pages and press
Delete, click Remove, or right-click → Remove.
To bring a page back, click the ↻ in its corner, or select it and press
Delete, click Restore, or right-click → Restore. Delete removes the selected pages, or restores them when they are all removed.Select pages #

Ctrl+ drag adds to the selection. - Arrow keys,
Page Up/Page Down,Home/Endmove the selection; withShiftthey extend it. Ctrl + Aselects all pages.
Save the result #
- Save writes the pages over the document and reloads it.
- Save As… writes them to a new PDF and opens it in a new tab. The document is not changed.
The document’s bookmarks, links, annotations and form fields are kept and follow their pages. Unsaved annotations are included.
Note: annotations and form fields of added PDFs become part of their pages: they show as before but can’t be edited. The added files aren’t changed.
Tips #
- Use Save As… first if you’re not sure: the original stays as it is.
- Use Merge PDF to delete pages by how they look; Delete pages from PDF takes page numbers.
- Tip: to merge many files or script it, use
sumatrapdf-tool merge(Merge PDFs).
