The Thumbnails view of the sidebar shows every page as a thumbnail: click one to go there.
Available in pre-release 3.7
Open it with View → Show Thumbnails. At a glance:
- Show / hide: View → Show Thumbnails, right-click → Show Thumbnails, or
Ctrl + K,Toggle Thumbnails. - Switch views: click the Bookmarks, Thumbnails or Favorites icon in a sidebar panel’s header.
- Go to a page: click its thumbnail, or
Up/Downwhile the thumbnails have the focus. - Move the focus:
Tabswitches between the document and the thumbnails. - Reorder, remove or add pages: the Merge PDF window.
Show the Thumbnails view #
- View → Show Thumbnails, or right-click the document → Show Thumbnails.
Ctrl + K, thenToggle Thumbnailsin the Command Palette. The command isCmdToggleThumbnails, bind a shortcut to it as in Customize keyboard shortcuts.- In a sidebar panel’s header, click the Thumbnails icon (hover shows its name). The Bookmarks and Favorites icons switch back.
The Thumbnails view works for documents without bookmarks, too.
Two sidebar panels #
The sidebar has a top and a bottom panel. Each shows Bookmarks, Thumbnails or Favorites; the header icon of the view it shows is highlighted.
- Show Thumbnails, Show Bookmarks (
F12) and Show Favorites open their view in the top panel if it’s hidden, else in the bottom panel if that’s hidden, else the top panel switches to it. - If the view is already showing, the command hides its panel.
- Clicking the icon of a view the other panel shows swaps the two panels’ views.
- The top panel, and what it shows, is remembered per document. The bottom panel is the same for all documents:

Go to a page #
Click a thumbnail. The page with the blue frame is the current one and follows you as you scroll the document.
Click a thumbnail or press
Tab to give the thumbnails the keyboard focus; a dotted border shows they have it. Then Up / Down go to the previous / next page. Every other key works as in the document (Page Down, Home, shortcuts, …). Tab moves the focus back to the document.Tips #
- Use the Thumbnails view to find a page by how it looks: a figure, a table, a blank page.
- Tip: to reorder, remove or add pages by dragging thumbnails, use right-click → Document → Merge PDF… (Merge PDF window).

Ctrl + K, then&shows a larger thumbnail grid in the Command Palette.
